ERWIN JOHN WIMMER

Posted
Erwin “Erv” John Wimmer passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at the age of 90. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Sandra (Kaminski), and their children: Donna (Vince) Balistrieri, Denise (Burt) Carle, and Paul (Mary) Wimmer. He was a proud grandfather to Michael Balistrieri, Vanessa Balistrieri (David Klein), Samantha (Steve) Throckmorton, Ashley (Thaddius) Raymond, Alex Carle (Najela Muhammad), Alyssa (Adam) Lewinton, Abbigail Wimmer, and Paul Wimmer. His legacy also lives on through his great-grandchildren: Lyla Wolfgram-Balistrieri, Tristan and Maverick Throckmorton, Ezra Carle, and Rosie Lewinton. Erv was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and spent most of his life in the Milwaukee area. As a boy, he cherished his days growing up across from Lindbergh Park, where he spent countless hours skating and playing sports with friends. He excelled in school, especially in math and history. He enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. In 1961, Erv married the love of his life, Sandra, and together they built a joyful life filled with laughter, music, and adventure. He often fondly referred to those years as “the good old days.” A passionate fisherman, Erv was known to head out on the water, especially Norwegian Lake, up to three times a day and passed that love on to his children. His joy for music—especially his lifelong admiration for Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)—was infectious. Erv was also an enthusiastic dancer, affectionately nicknamed “Swervin’ Ervin” for his moves on the dance floor. One of his most endearing traits was his extraordinary whistling, which filled the house and brightened the days of all who loved him. Above all, Erv was a devoted family man. He coached, played, and cheered alongside his children at every game, recital, and event. Their home was filled with music and laughter—a happy family always singing together. In 2003, Erv and Sandra retired to Fountain Hills, Arizona, where they enjoyed many wonderful years with treasured friends and family. Erv was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley or the Alzheimer’s Association in Erv’s memory.
