Litchfield Park is a family-oriented, pedestrian-friendly lifestyle community that attracts residents and tourists. It is home to the Wigwam Resort, an Arizona landmark and Historic Hotel of America that opened in 1929.
The city got its start through the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., which in 1916 sent executive Paul W. Litchfield to the area to purchase as much land as possible to grow cotton as a product to reinforce the company's tires.
What is now Litchfield Park was originally a company town that got its name in 1926. The Wigwam Resort was originally called the "Organization House," that was a guest quarters for visiting Goodyear executives before it was expanded into a public resort.
The city, originally 3.3 square miles, was incorporated in 1987.
Popular annual attractions include the Halloween Carnival, weekend concerts on the front lawn of the Wigwam Resort, Christmas in the Park, and the Arts Festival. The city is known for its greenery and three signature golf courses at the Wigwam Resort.
According to the 2023 Census numbers, Litchfield Park has a population of 6,884 people. It is 20 miles west of Phoenix in the southwest Valley located north of Interstate 1-10.
The Litchfield Park Independent launched in the fall of 2018, circulating by mailbox once each month to the entire city.
