Rich in western history and adjacent to the Superstition Mountains, Apache Junction is known as a tourist area and winter home for people from colder climates.
The city of Apache Junction, incorporated on Nov. 24, 1978, is now home to about 38,500 people in the East Valley, but that number is increasing rapidly with infill and development to the south.
The city annexed 6,687 acres of former state trust land in October 2021. Some 2,700 acres are to be developed with more than 10,000 homes, apartments, condominiums and townhomes along with some commercial uses, according to the city’s website.
