Fountain Hills alum hopes to spread message of sustainability and community with release of first novel

Kelly Lydick, a 1997 graduate of Fountain Hills High School, released her first novel this year in June.

Her novel, “Everything That’s Left Behind,” takes place in the near future in a drought-stricken Phoenix, following protagonist Nichola Rodale trekking across the American Southwest to find her father who she thought had perished during a calamitous climate disaster.

Lydick said that much of the inspiration of the novel came from her childhood growing up in Fountain Hills.
