Fountain Hills Theater remains open despite a major water leak that occurred over the weekend.
Sandi McGee, interim executive director, said a pipe burst sometime Saturday after the cast and crew left after midnight, following the “Together Again: Judy and Liza” production.
“Everything was fine when we left,” she said.
The crew working on the show, “James and the Giant Peach” discovered the leak when they arrived to begin working on that event Sunday morning.
The lobby, hallway, restrooms and dressing room were heavily damaged by the water. The carpet will be removed in those areas; some will remain until “James and the Giant Peach” ends its run Sunday, April 14.
“The insurance people and the restoration people have been just fantastic,” McGee said. “They know we don’t want to have to close at all during the restoration. We plan to go on with all the upcoming productions. Fortunately, the theaters were not damaged. People may be coming in to a concrete floor in the lobby, but otherwise, we should be fine.”
McGee said the insurance adjustor is still working on the damage estimate.
“It’s extensive, but I have no idea how much it will be,” she said.
