The Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church is hosting a special benefit concert by the Sonoran Quintet Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m.
All are invited to attend this musical event, which supports a worthy cause, according to a press release.
This marks the third year that the Sonoran Quintet has performed a benefit concert at FHPC. This year, all proceeds will support the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale - Mary Ellen and Robert McKee Branch, providing scholarships for Fountain Hills youth.
The quintet will perform a variety of music, including works by Mozart and Gershwin, as well as a medley of tunes from “The Sound of Music.”
Musicians in the quintet include flutist Dianne Winsor, oboist Patti Backes, clarinetist Chris Stewart, bassoonist Marty Haub and Stacey D’Abate on French horn.
Winsor holds degrees in performance from the New England Conservatory of Music and the Boston Conservatory of Music. Backes earned a degree in music education from the New England Conservatory of Music and a master’s in education from Connecticut College and has taught music for 37 years.
Chris “Doc” Stewart, clarinet, is a retired ER doctor from the Mayo Clinic who now performs regularly with his own group as well as several other local groups in the Phoenix area.
A multi-instrumentalist, Stewart plays saxophone, flute and clarinet in a variety of musical genres. D’Abate, a retired corporate director from the Revlon Corporation, plays in the Arizona Winds Band in the West Valley, the Alleluia Orchestra with Scottsdale Bible Church and the Poliziano Orchestra in Tuscany.
Free-will donations will be accepted with all proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Club’s scholarship program for Fountain Hills youth.
This promises to be a high-quality musical concert that not only entertains but also makes a meaningful impact on the community, the release said.
