The new school year has begun and the Golden Eagle Education Foundation’s Mentor Program has seen an influx of students seeking support from community volunteers.
According to a press release, new mentors are needed immediately to dedicate just one hour of their week to students in need.
“Due to high demand our award-winning mentor program has a need for many more mentors who are willing to work with one student for one hour each week,” according to a press release. “You get to choose the day of the week, the time you would like and the grade level, K-12, of the student you would like to work with.”
Mentor Program leadership explained that mentor’s do not need to be a teacher to qualify.
“Students need kind, caring adults who are willing to help students, share their knowledge and be attentive,” the release continued. “You can be that person.”
Mentors will need to attend a two-hour training session, with the next opportunity planned for later this month. Those interested can visit fhgeef.org for more details. Under the “Mentoring” tab, scroll down to “Become a Mentor” and fill out the mentor profile. Interested parties may also write to mentoring@fhgeef.org for additional details and guidance.
