Woman found dead in car identified

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office today identified the woman who was found dead in a parked car in the Bashas' center early Thursday morning, June 26.

Officer Chris Hegstrom, media relations spokesman for MCSO, said the woman was Angela Cantwell, 50, visiting here from Oregon.

The man who lives at the Fountain Hills home where she was staying reported her missing around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Hegstrom said, after she failed to return to the residence. She was found by deputies slumped over the steering wheel of the man's white pickup truck with the hazard lights flashing on the north side of the Bashas' center along Palisades Blvd.

She immediately was pronounced dead, Hegstrom said, but homicide and district detectives were called in to investigate further.

"All we can tell initially is that there were no signs of foul play," Hegstrom said regarding exact cause of death. "We are waiting for test results from the medical examiner's office."
