Niners’ charity event a success

$46,000 to Sojourner Center

The Rio Verde WGA/Niners charity golf event held in early March was a huge success.

It was described as “a fun filled, heartwarming day of giving,” and more than $46,000 was raised for the Sojourner Center which provides a safe haven for survivors of domestic abuse.

Each year the center helps 10,000 individuals in the Phoenix area and provides shelter to an average of 1,000 adults, children and their pets.

The organizers thank the Rio Verde Community Foundation for donating $3,000 for the Sojourner’s Child Development Center. Foundation Board member Scott Mosby presented a check to Sojourner Co-Director Julie Peterson.

The event was attended by 126 women, included a morning six-person golf scramble followed by lunch and raffle. The golfers were asked to donate new twin bedding, pillows or towels in exchange for magic putts. There were 70 hole sponsors. The raffle included five golf items, four live auction items and 30 silent auction items. Items were donated by community members, other golf courses and surrounding communities.

Event organizers heading up the charity event were co-chairs Katherine Tortorici and Jackie Williams along with committee members Jennie Becker, Rosi Bush, Jana Colbourne, Amy Dresser, Sharyn Duce, Kara Egan, Gail Fischer, Pam Forshier, Becky Gandini, Marcia Inman, Mary Jo Krizman, Shelley Peetz, Susan Smith and lots of helpers on the event day.
