Young Frankenstein at theater through July 5

Back by popular demand, the Mel Brooks’ musical “Young Frankenstein” is on stage here through Sunday, July 5.

And while seeing that smash hit, theater goers can help a good cause at the same time.

Throughout the production, the theater is conducting a food drive on behalf of Extended Hands Food Bank.

Those coming to the show are asked to bring non-perishable food items as a donation.

“Young Frankenstein” is a wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on his classic comedy masterpiece.

The story follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein (that’s Fronkensteen) as he attempts to complete his grandfather’s masterwork and bring a corpse to life.

Together with his oddly shaped and endearing helper Igor (that’s Eye-gor), his curvaceous lab assistant Inga, and in spite of his incredibly self-involved madcap fiancé Elizabeth, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster -- but not without scary and quite often hilarious complications.

The production stars Bill Bennett, Roy Hunt, Noel Irick, Matt Mcdonald, Darryl W. Poenisch, Roger Prenger, Morgan Ottersbach, Patrick Russo and Janine Smith.

The ensemble includes Nick Doonan, Dan Fecteau, Lizz Reeves Fidler, Alan Isaacson, Susie Lundy, Kendra Lytle, Sara Matin, Stephani Mcdonald, Lew Myers, Manny Quijada, Tanya Schoenwolf, Jessica Shepler, Asher Sheppard, Tom Vinopal and Eric Williams.

The musical plays through July 5.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Individual tickets are $28 for adults and $23 for children 17 and under. Group rates and student rush discounts are available. Note: The production includes adult language and themes.

All performances are at Fountain Hills Theater on its Mainstage at 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd. Tickets are available through the Theater Box Office at (480) 837-9661, ext. 3, and at www.fhtaz.org. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
