Theater preps for big season

Fountain Hills Theater has plenty of variety and selections for the whole family this coming season and wants to give locals one more reminder of what’s coming up.
On the Mainstage this year:
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Sept. 2-18. Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming’s children’s book.
The Glass Menagerie, Oct. 14-30. An American classic by Tennessee Williams.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jan. 20-Feb. 5, 2017. The biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors come to life in this musical parable.
Leading Ladies, March 10-26, 2017. The hilarious tale of two English Shakespearean actors who test their skills by playing two women seeking a fortune.
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, April 21-May 7, 2017. The happy-go-lucky view of small town vice and statewide political side-stepping.
Appearing on Mainstage Too for the 2016-17 season:
30 Years: Fountain Hills Theater Retrospective! Aug. 19-28. A nostalgic celebration of the past 30 years of productions at Fountain Hills Theater. Thirty of the theater’s finest performers will present a musical revue of three decades of award-winning shows.
Assassins, Nov. 4-20. The story lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman bend the rules of time and space, taking the audience on a nightmarish roller coaster ride.
A Christmas Carol, The Musical, Dec. 2-18. A holiday tradition at Fountain Hills Theater based on the Charles Dickens classic.
Love Letters, Jan. 6-15, 2017. This funny and poignant tale of what could have been, of friendship sustained through the years and an affirmation of the adage that first love is the hardest to forget.
4 on the Floor, May 12-28, 2017. In 1994, FHT Artistic Director Peter J. Hill realized there had never been a musical about the American obsessions with cars. He fixed that with his “Best Original Musical.”
And on the Fountain Hills Youth Theater stage:
Charlotte’s Web, Sept. 23-Oct. 9. Musical version of the classic story by E. B. White. A beautiful, knowing play about friendship.
Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells, Dec. 2-18. The youth theater reprises last season’s holiday hit about first-grader Junie B. Jones and all her misadventures.
Doctor Dolittle, Jr., Feb. 10-26, 2017. The classic tale tells the classic tale of a wacky, but kind, doctor who can talk to animals.
Anne of Green Gables, March 31-April 16, 2017. The story of an orphan girl, Anne, who rises from destitution to happiness in the farm country entirely by virtue of her pluck and personality.
Disney’s The Jungle Book, Kids, June 2-18, 2017. Adapted from Disney’s beloved animated film and the works of Rudyard Kipling, the “man cub” Mowgli bounds through the jungle and learns what it means to be human.
