Helmed by FHT’s Artis-tic Director Peter J. Hill, and incorporating news-reel footage from WWII, this production of “South Pacific” balances intimate, personal stories with the sweeping grandeur of wartime drama.
“South Pacific” premi-ered in 1949 on Broadway and was an immediate hit, running for 1,925 per-formances.
The original Broadway production enjoyed im-mense critical and box-office success, became the second-longest running Broadway musical to that point (behind Rodgers and Hammerstein’s earlier Oklahoma!) and has remained popular ever since.
The production won 10 TONY Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Libretto, and it is still the only musical production to win TONY Awards in all four acting categories.
“South Pacific” is pro-duced by Patty Torrilhon and Patricia Tonzi and di-rected by Peter J. Hill. The show is choreo-graphed by Noel Irick and musically directed by Dan Kurek.
The show stars Karissa Anderson-Self, Chris Fid-ler, Alex Gonzalez, Nicho-las Hambruch, Dawn LeSueur, Matt Mcdonald, Hal Morgan, Patrick Rus-so, Chelsea Umeda and Tom Vinopal.
The production also features Katie Barnett, Heidi Carpenter, J.P. Clemente, Ashley Fredricksen, Andrey Lull, Brandon Murphy, J. Jay Rangel, Josie Sand and Asher Sheppard.
“South Pacific” plays Sept. 4-20. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
A reception will be held on opening night for all those attending that even-ing. Theatergoers will en-joy free appetizers and soft drinks Sept. 4.
