Juried Art Show deadline is Friday

Juried Art Show deadline is Friday

Carol Cunningham, local sculptor and artist, will be one of the three judges for Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association’s 20th annual Juried Art show.

Cunningham has been painting and sculpting for over 30 years. Her major subject the first 10 years was the horse.

When she moved to Colorado, she expanded her subject matter to wildlife and various subjects incorporating children. Cunningham is well known for capturing the interaction of children and animals.

Cunningham’s education and training were accomplished at Lincoln University, Kansas City Art Institute, Southwest Craft Center and McNay Art Institute. She bred and trained horses for many years, and is a past director of the Missouri Veterinary Museum.

Her public commissioned works can be seen in Poland, in Estes Park, Parker, and Boulder, Colo., in Kawai, Hawaii, Barrington, Ill. and Owing Mills, Md.

Her piece “Check-Up” appears at the Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine in Ft. Collins, Colo., as well as at Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis., and in South Dakota, Sioux Falls Iowa and Mason City Iowa.

Her piece “Dream Dancer” is an American Horse Show permanent trophy.

Carol and her husband Don now live in Fountain Hills, where Carol serves on the FHCCA Public Art committee and Don is treasurer of the Art League.

Artists from Fountain Hills, the Verdes, nearby Scottsdale, Goldfield Ranch and Ft. McDowell are encouraged to enter the 2016 Juried Art Show.

Applications may be picked up at the Community Center in Fountain Hills, or downloaded from the FHCCA website, www,fhcultural-civic.org/juried art.

Applications are due Friday, Dec. 4. The registration fee of $25 permits each artist to enter two pieces of art.

Categories include watercolor, oil, graphics, pastels or charcoal, black and white photography, color photography, original digital painting, hand thrown pottery, hand painted porcelain, and sculpture (wood, glass, clay, metal, paper or fiber).

Artists, judges and the public are invited to the artists’ reception on Wednesday, Jan. 6, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Community Center. If there are questions, contact Jackie Miles at 480-837-3214.
