Judy Garland died in 1969.
Her daughter, Liza Minnelli, turned 73 yesterday.
Patrick Russo is about to bring Judy back to life and Liza to a time in her younger years with his show, “Judy & Liza: Together Again.”
Russo, who owns Russo Salon and Spa in Fountain Hills, reprises his roles in two shows Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30.
He performed the show at Fountain Hills Theater in 2017, selling out both shows. The production again will be at Fountain Hills Theater on the Mainstage.
Tickets are $125. A limited number of VIP tickets are $150, which include a champagne after-party meet and greet with Russo. Ticket holders can take their picture with him and receive a signed headshot.
“I’m really looking forward to doing the show again,” Russo said. “I love this little theater and am pleased I can do something to benefit them.”
While the production appears “small,” Russo said a lot of preparation goes into it.
“I have to buy outfits, including shoes,” he said. “Thank God for online shopping.”
He said he has a dresser who helps him change costumes and characters, as well as backup dancers who add to the flavor of the production.
Russo credited the theater staff for creating a successful show.
“Fountain Hills Theater has a great staff,” he said. “They do everything, and the production is very professional.”
The show opens with Judy Garland, singing familiar tunes from her long career.
Russo’s friend, Michael Mullen from Chicago, joins Judy onstage as Peggy Lee, where they sing one song together. Peggy then sings four of her own songs.
Following the 10 minute intermission, Russo appears as Liza Minnelli.
After the act as Liza, Russo will sing a few songs as himself.
Russo is an award-winning actor. He has been working with the local theater for eight years.
In an earlier interview, Russo said he has loved theater forever.
“I love it for so many reasons,” he said “It isn’t for the applause. It’s for the relationships, for the art, the creativity.”
