It is unimaginable that thousands Arizonans live without basic plumbing and clean water.
But that is precisely the case for the Navajo Nation, located in parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.
Four Peaks Rotary members learned at its June 13 meeting of a Rotary International project that provides construction of individual water systems for Navajo homes. Solar panels and electrical connections also are included for families who do not have electrical service.

Led by Rotary Project Director Jim Bissonet, members heard how they can get involved in helping the nation with their water needs. According to President-elect Jeff Poynter, the club has an opportunity to vote on receiving a Rotary Global Grant allowing Four Peaks to work hand-in-hand with Rotary International in solving the Navajo Nation’s water crisis.
Poynter said he is optimistic that the project fits well with Four Peaks Rotary’s vision.
“We’re a club that wants to help as many people as possible,” he said. “This is a tremendous opportunity for Four Peaks Rotary to step up and really make a difference in many lives.”
The Club hopes to make an announcement within the next few weeks of their partnership with Rotary International and the Navajo Nation.
Four Peaks Rotary meets the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 7 a.m. at Fountain View Village. For more information, visit fourpeaksrotary.org.
