Fountain Hills Town Council will meet Tuesday, April 2

The Town Council for Fountain Hills will be considering an amendment to the grading standards in the Subdivision Ordinance that relate to fire safety when it meets Tuesday, April 2.

The changes are to address fire safety considering increased housing construction in desert interface areas where fire danger is high. The new language would allow an additional 10 feet beyond the prescribed disturbance area for construction. Revegetation is required prior to occupancy.

Also, the fire marshal is authorized to review and approve limited clearing and removal of plant material within a non-disturbance area, on the lot, for up to 100’ from a structure, to reduce fire danger from overgrowth and an accumulation of dead or dying plant material. The purpose of this section is to reduce fire danger by requiring the removal of material that creates a fire danger.

The council will also consider authorizing a bidding process for a wayfinding sign project for directing visitors to various locations within the town. This is an item that has been discussed by the council and staff for several years.

The Public Art Committee is prepared for the second installment of the Pumphouse Art Project at Fountain Park. The theme “Expressions” includes seven new images to be attached to the wall along El Lago Boulevard.

The council will be considering approval for the installation of the art.

The council will consider a Fountain Hills Ethical Artificial Intelligence Policy at the April 2 meeting. The proposal for the policy was presented by Vice Mayor Brenda Kalivianakis to provide guidelines for the ethical use of AI by the Town of Fountain Hills.

The council is also to consider a resolution requested by Councilman Allen Skillicorn directing the Town Attorney to not oppose Superior Court suit related to referendum petitions. The court is considering a motion to dismiss the challenge to the town clerk’s decision that the petitions are invalid.

Mayor Ginny Dickey will present a proclamation declaring April 2-8 as International Dark Sky Week in Fountain Hills.

The council will also recognize the members of the Citizens Streets Committee for their volunteer work for the town.

Cox Communications’ manager of government affairs will make a presentation to the council.

The Fire Department will present an update on the first quarter activities.

The Town Council meets Tuesday, April 2, at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
