Fountain Hills teen gaming tournaments bring youth together for competition, friendship

In a darkened room of the Fountain Hills Community Center on June 11, local teens were embroiled in competitive tournaments for “Mario Kart World” and “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.”

32 participants competed in both bracket-style tournaments for each game, with half in the ages 11-13 group and the other half in the 14-17 group. Top finalists received Target gift cards as prizes.

However, even those who didn’t win simply got to have a great time with their friends or making new ones, according to town Recreation Program Coordinator Sarah Lind.
