Fountain Hills DAR begins 2024 essay contest

Club promotes U.S. history through essay and video contests

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) recently announced its education on American history essay contests for 2024.

This year’s contests focus on two “tea party” protests that took place in the North Carolina Colony - the Edenton Tea Party and the Wilmington Tea Party.

The essay contest is open to grades five through eight and the video contest is for grades five through 12.

DAR also sponsors a Patriots of the American Revolution Essay Contest for students in ninth through 12th grades.

For this essay, contestants are asked to select a figure from the American Revolution (1773-1783) and discuss how he or she influenced the course of the American Revolution and their contributions to the founding of a new nation.

For the first time this year, video entries are accepted, and the DAR invites students from private, public, parochial or home schools to participate.

National winners will be awarded $2,500 for first place; $1,000 for second place and $500 for third place in each grade category.

The deadline to submit a written or video essay is Sunday, Dec. 15.
