It’s early on a Monday morning at Fountain Park, and Al Vrezec and his son, Enej, are out with cameras in hand and binoculars slung around their necks.
On a two-week journey through Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, the father-son duo traveled from Slovenia to explore the unique bird life of the Southwest.
But Vrezec is no casual birdwatcher. He’s a professional ornithologist, a scientist who studies birds, at Slovenia’s National Institute of Biology. Today, however, he’s here for leisure. With Enej on summer break, the two are spending their time tracking birds across the region.
