First ever Yavapai Indian Foundation Gala planned

Yavapai nation to hold celebration at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club

The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation is introducing its first ever Yavapai Indian Foundation Gala, inviting the community to support the tribe’s youth, senior and tribal preservation efforts.

Set for Saturday, April 19, beginning at 6 p.m., An Evening Under Our Yavapai Sky will feature a five-course dinner from the We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, live entertainment including guitarist Paul James, youth singers and a hoop dancer, a silent auction and historical storytelling from Clissene Lewis, director of cultural development for the Yavapai Nation.

The stories will center on the tribe’s history, its standoff with the federal government over 30 years ago and other challenges that the tribe has overcome over the years, says Matthew Barr, We-Ko-Pa Golf Club General Manager.
