“Accent on America” is the theme for concerts by the 50-member Fountain Hills Community Concert Band.
The band starts its season Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Fountain Hills Community Church at 7 p.m. A second concert is set for Feb. 28 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church at 3 p.m.
All works will be by American composers. Among the pieces to be performed are “Victory at Sea,” adapted by composers Richard Rodgers and Robert Russell Bennett, from their monumental score for the famous WWII TV Naval battles historical documentary series. The 1952-53 NBC documentary featured 26 episodes; the local band’s presentation will include music from the 19th episode as the archival scenes are played on screen projection.

A very special appearance opens the Feb. 16 concert. Virtuoso fifers from Boston will perform colonial period tunes in three cornered hat garb.
Admission is free and the community is cordially invited. Band director
Ed Madden has promised a lively, spirited and very entertaining evening.
“Our fine musicians have been making a truly major effort in rehearsals to bring this program of excellent, challenging, significant music to a high performance level,” Madden said.
