Join the Fountain Hills Chamber Players for their final concert of the season Sunday, March 8, presented at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.

Under the leadership of newly-appointed Artistic Director Joseph Kluesener, Fountain Hills Chamber Players continue expanding their offerings of artistry by adding new performers and fascinating yet familiar repertoire to entertain chamber music audiences.

This concert will feature piano trios by Beethoven, Loeffler and Brahms in various combinations of flute, bassoon, viola, oboe, cello and clarinet, with the piano prominent in all of them.

The repertoire, offering a diverse range of expression, also spans three distinctive stylistic periods and traditional signatures of each composer.

Beethoven was relatively young when he completed his trio for piano, flute and bassoon, and displays his prowess at variation form. Performers include Kate Mulligan-Ferry, flute; Joseph Kluesener, bassoon; and Alice Brovan, piano.

The least known of the three composers, Charles Martin Loeffler, has written a lush, dynamic and compelling score for piano, oboe and viola, representing the most recent of the works on the program.

His “Two Rhapsodies” will feature Bill Aikens, oboe; Allyson Wuenchel, viola; and and Yeojin Seol, piano.

The final selection, an epic by Johannes Brahms, features the piano with clarinet and cello. His Trio in A minor, Op. 114 contains four movements of carefully crafted musical inspiration, which Brahms declared is the only reason a musician should ever create.

Performing this work will be Joshua Gardner, clarinet; Luciana Gallo, cello; and Alice Brovan, piano.

The concert begins at 3 p.m., with a pre-concert talk led by the artistic director and featuring Arizona State University faculty and clarinetist Gardner.

For the price of a ticket, audience members may enjoy the pre-concert talk, the performance, and a reception with the afternoon’s artists hosted by the Four Peaks Women’s Club, with goodies donated by Phil’s Filling Station Grill.

Single tickets are $20 each, with special rates available for couples and groups.

In addition, students with valid student ID are entitled to a 50 percent discount. Cash and check only at the box office; no ATM on site.
