The Maricopa County Air Quality Control Department placed a mobile air quality monitoring station in Fountain Park on Tuesday, July 26, as a result of odor complaints from a citizen, but there was no pollutant detected.
The equipment on site was checking for signs of hydrogen sulfide in the air. According to the report released by the town Thursday morning there was no trace of the gas recorded over the 24-hour period the monitor was in place.
Hydrogen sulfide is a gas sometimes associated with stale, stagnant water that gives off a rotten-egg odor. It is harmful and even explosive in heavy concentrations.
