People person

I am sure my family, friends and people who have read my opinion letters will be surprised to hear that I voted for Ginny Dickey.

When it comes to national and some states’ issues and politics, Ginny and I are as far apart as the North and South Poles. However, when it comes to our hometown and how we love, care about it and our neighbors, she and I are on the same page. She has always been dedicated to the quality of life, natural beauty, safety, and traffic-free and quality zoning.

My son, Charlie, once worked for the local waste management company. He made up a costume he called “The Wizard of Waste” to entertain the kids on the garbage route. When he would pick up the trash bins at Dickey’s house, her children would enjoy waving to this masked, caped man. He recently told me Ginny always left an envelope on the bin with a tip. That told me a lot about her character: She is a people person.

Cecil Yates pushed the Crystal Lagoon – big mistake. Later, he denied the townspeople the opportunity to vote for someone to finish his two years left on the council. That’s when he lost many votes. It seemed like he wanted to make sure the existing town council would choose someone who would back up his agenda if elected mayor. He only trusted us to vote for him, not his replacement.

Linda Kavanagh recently stated Republicans fight against tax increases and more taxes. I guess she forgot all the previous Republican town council members who pushed for a town property tax. I am a Republican, but political preferences do not belong in small town elections. That’s why affiliations are not noted on the ballot next to their names.
