Headphones on and the trail is in my sight. The trail I am referring to is the new Adero trailhead that recently opened to the public.

I started hiking the trails in the McDowells a few years ago and frequently enjoy hiking the Overlook trail behind the fountain. This is the time where I just listen to my music and think. I also am able to burn some calories while doing so.

A few Saturdays ago I headed up to check out the new trailhead at Adero Canyon. I realized after arriving to the starting point of the hike that the past few stories we had in the paper did not give directions to the location.

I stopped at the sales office at the entrance to Adero Canyon, which is just past the CopperWynd entrance and asked if I was headed the right way. There is a dirt road you take after the sales office, which is about a mile from the trailhead entrance.

I put on my music, and off I went on the trail. There were a decent number of people that morning so that is always good. You don’t feel too alone out there. My first impression of the trail was the amazing views. I chose to take the five mile round trip loop in which you will get amazing views of Fountain Hills and the mountains beyond the whole hike.

I am afraid of heights so there were some moments I got a little bit freaked out but nothing too bad. The weather was great and as I got into about an hour of the hike I chose to cut through and head back to the car. I will complete the five mile round trip hike on another day as some of the inclines were really challenging me that morning.

I highly recommend taking the hike if you have not done so yet. I will be back soon to check out a few of the other trails to choose from.

This past Saturday I took my dad to see Creed 2. This was my second time seeing it as I am a huge fan of the Rocky series. We watched it at Roadhouse Cinemas in the Pavilions. My wife and I went to a movie a few months back at Roadhouse and we both really enjoyed seeing a movie at this theater.

Fountain Hills does not have a movie theater; I am not sure if the town will ever get one but I would highly recommend Roadhouse Cinemas to those looking to go to the movies. We saw a first showing Saturday morning so the tickets were $5 each and you get comfortable seating with a server and the food we had for lunch was really good.

The holidays are coming up fast, and we will be having a few early deadlines for Christmas and New Year’s. The advertising deadline will be Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. followed by a deadline to get your letters to the editor submitted by Friday, Dec. 21, at noon.

Speaking of the holidays, be sure to enter your name at one of the 31 participating businesses in our Cash In The Hills holiday contest. We will be doing our last drawing this week and will be giving out five $25 winners and the grand prize drawing of $200, $300 and $500 in Fountain Hills Times dollars, which can be spent at the participating merchants.

Be sure to enter by noon Thursday. This contest is to help local businesses and restaurants during the holiday season. It pays to shop and dine local. Good luck, and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year.
