Jean Madland

Posted

Jean Madland passed away on Nov. 29, 2018 at her apartment in Fountain Hills, Ariz., at the age of 98.

She was born in Murray, Iowa, to Aaron and Arda Miller on July 30, 1920 and was the second born among three sisters and one brother. She married Glen Madland in April 1948. After her husband finished his degree in Ames, Iowa, they moved to Chicago where her first two children were born. They moved to Phoenix and later to Fountain Hills and embraced the Arizona lifestyle and had one more child.

Jean loved music, art, and travel. Her church was a big part of her life and she sang in the Scottsdale United Methodist Church choir for 40 years. She volunteered with the Wesley Pre-school and the Lioness Club. She loved watching wildlife and sunsets from her home overlooking the McDowell Mountains and the fountain in Fountain Hills. She and her husband lived in that house for more than 20 years until she was 97.

She is survived by her three children, Paul Madland, Pam Madland and Peter Madland; and four grandchildren, Erica Madland, Robert Madland, Rachael (Madland) Low, and Hayley Madland. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Glen Madland, less than a year earlier.

There was a celebration of life near the fountain in December.
