Betty Lou Humphreys

Posted

Betty Lou Humphreys, 72, passed over on Nov. 19, 2018 peacefully at her home in Fountain Hills with her family by her side. We all loved Betty and she will always be missed and remembered for the rest of our time.

Betty was born on Nov. 16, 1946 to James and Euzella Bradshaw in Fort Collins, Colo. She was the fourth of five siblings and grew up in Springfield, Mo. In 1968 she moved to Oceanside, Calif. and worked at Dynamed in charge of the printing department until she met Carl.

Betty started work in Carl’s company in 1985, where their relationship grew and they fell in love. Together they decided to move to Fountain Hills in February 1987, where they lived in their motorhome while building their family home. They viewed this as one of life’s many adventures and created many memories over the years to come; one of which was their marriage on the 28th of December, 1989.

While living in Fountain Hills, Betty worked as a waitress at the Little Café and eventually went to work for the Fort McDowell Casino, where she worked for 20 years and made many lifelong friends until retiring in 2008.

Betty was reserved but definitely had her opinions and was not shy about expressing them. She enjoyed reading and writing and has written several songs, poems and unpublished books. Betty was known for her excellent cooking and festive decorations for every season. She spent her time raising her children and enjoying a beautiful life with her husband, Carl.

Betty defeated her first bout with ovarian cancer in 2003; she was always a fighter but could not overcome lung cancer that eventually took her life.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Carl Humphreys; her daughter, Julia Soto; Julia’s son and daughter, Dakota and Sienna Humphreys; stepdaughter, Jennifer Humphreys; Jennifer’s daughter, Zoe and fiancé, Mark and his family; stepson Chad Humphreys, his fiancé, Carrie and their daughter, Eloise; Betty’s brother-in-law, Kenneth Humphreys, his wife, Patricia; their children and grandchildren and her brother-in-law, Keith Humphreys, his wife, Harley; their children and grandchildren; Betty’s brother, Jessie Bradshaw. Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Jenny and Mary and her brother, Jimmy.

Betty is a great, beautiful and fantastic spirit that will live in our hearts all the rest of our days. Betty will be greatly missed and thought of regularly. Our memories of Betty will remain as a joy in all of our lives.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, cancer.org.
