More than 30 businesses and charities are expected to provide family game booths from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, on the Avenue of the Fountains for Halloween in the Hills.

The first organizational meeting for the event will be at 9 a.m., Oct. 10, in the Community Center.

Booths are free as long as the sponsor does not sell anything and can create a game.

The final planning meeting will be at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, also in the Community Center.

The town and Sami Fine Jewelry will again close the street to pedestrian traffic only for the annual free Halloween celebration.

Activities will include bounce houses, a fire truck candy drop and carnival games.

Two costume contests for pets and their owners, and one for children only will be sponsored by Sami’s and Steadfast Construction.

The pet and people contest will start at 5:45 p.m.; registration will take place from 5:15 to 5:40 p.m. in front of Chase Bank.

The contest for kids is geared for youths under 18 years of age beginning at 6:30 p.m. They will strut across the stage to show off their costumes. Businesses provide prizes for the best outfits. Registration will precede the contest from 6 to 6:20 p.m.

A martial arts demonstration and a zombie “Thriller” dance routine also will entertain the crowd.

Businesses stay open for trick or treating. Charlotte, the friendly spider, will hold court in a haunted house beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Sonoran Lifestyle Real Estate office.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
