Viree Byrne, regent for the Four Peaks Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was a recent guardian on Honor Flight Arizona #105 which flew to Washington D.C. April 10.

“Our DAR chapter, and other DAR chapters, provide and serve the veterans before they depart from Sky Harbor and having had the honor and privilege of actually traveling as a guardian with these wonderful veterans is one I will remember the rest of my life,” says Byrne.

Four Peaks Chapter member Heidi Taylor was previously an Honor Flight guardian, and chapter member Susan Titus coordinates the Honor Flight breakfasts and sack lunches at times.

America 250 event is May 11

The local Four Peaks DAR chapter is holding an educational event about the Original Liberty Tree and America 250, a nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The event, which takes place May 11 at the Centennial Circle outside the Community Center, will be joined by the Sons of the American Revolution in their Revolutionary-era apparel.

This event is free and open to the public.

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is a non-profit women’s service organization.

“Patriotism is one of our main missions, as is education -- especially about American History,” says Byrne.
