The Marine Corps League of Fountain Hills want to congratulate Ambassador Enrique Melendez on his 88th birthday.
Enrique served in our Town Council as council member and vice mayor in 2001. We commend his years of service to our community and his service as Special Ops in the Marine Corps.
Through his efforts and request of Senator John McCain, they were successful in El Salvador sending a battalion of Marines and Special Forces to fight alongside the Coalition and U.S. forces in Iraq. El Salvador, Enriques’ home country, was the only Latin nation to send armed units to defend freedom.
He was honored and decorated by Senator McCain for their joint effort in 2003 and also decorated in the Oval Office by President Reagan as one of the top 20 Hispanics in the U.S. in 1984.
We wish you many more years of health and thank you for your service.
