Jeff Dayton back in town to honor friend, colleague Glen Campbell

Jeff Dayton, the singer/songwriter who has roots in Fountain Hills, brings his salute to Glen Campbell to the community Sunday, Oct. 8.

Dayton currently lives in Nashville and spends much of the year touring. He spent 15 years of his career as band manager for Glen Campbell, developing a close friendship with the late country artist. Campbell died this year from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Dayton told The Times in a phone interview last week that he will perform all the Glen Campbell favorites, as well as perform some of his own music.

“I will debut a song Glen and I wrote together,” Dayton said. “I’ll tell some stories about our days together, and just some stories about Glen.”

Dayton said his new CD, “The Glen Connection” will be available at the Oct. 8 show and by mail-order only.

“I’m not going to stream it at all,” he said. “I’m going old school.”

The show will be at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, 13001 N. Fountain Hills Blvd. Tickets are $20 at the church office, and also will be available at the door.

In addition to the 7 p.m. show, Dayton will perform at both morning services. The first one is at 9 a.m., and the second is at 11:15 a.m.

Dayton is a versatile musician, writer and artist, who also toured with Kenny Chesney, Lee Greenwood and others, as well as spending time as an educator, songwriter and producer.

Dayton moved to Fountain Hills in 1979 from Minnesota. He formed his own band soon after moving to the community and eventually ended up spending 15 years touring with Glen Campbell and serving as band manager for some of those years. He left the community in 1991.

Dayton’s Jeff Dayton Band was one of the featured bands at the July 4 fireworks concert in 1989, when more than 175,000 people came to Fountain Park for the music and fireworks. He appeared with the Gatlin Brothers and Highway 101.
