The Town Council has given its approval for the Fountain Hills Sister Cities organization to pursue a fourth Sister City for the town.

Sister Cities President and former Mayor Sharon Morgan said the group has been in communication with officials in the city of Zamosc, Poland. They have had the assistance of Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Arizona Bogumil N. Horchem, a Fountain Hills resident.

Zamosc is a 16th Century Renaissance city in southeastern Poland with a population of 66,633.

Morgan told the council that Zamosc is in relative close proximity to Fountain Hills Sister Cities in Kasterlee, Belgium and Dierdorf, Germany, which would provide an opportunity for expanding student exchange trips to include a third country and culture.

Horchem said Zamosc has a high school, vocational school and community college and local officials there are very interested in educational exchanges.

Sister Cities Board Member Dr. Lisa Loving reported that there is currently a group of local students visiting in the Sister City of Dierdorf, Germany.

Loving also talked about Fountain Hills students who visited Ataco, El Salvador on a humanitarian mission and helped build 20 new homes after an earthquake disaster.

“It is very impressive to see what a difference a small group of people can make,” Loving said.
