Program amendments on Fountain Hills council agenda

Meeting set Tuesday, May 21

Fountain Hills Town Council will be considering several program and agreement amendments when it meets Tuesday, May 21.

There is a request for a third amendment to an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the Flood Control District for Maricopa County (FCDMC) related to grant funding. The town is working on improvements to the flood water impound area that includes Golden Eagle Park and there have been delays in the design work for the project that includes drainage and dam improvements.

The estimated total cost for this portion of the work is $121,000 with FCDMC participation of $90,750.

FCDMS approved funding for this project under its Small Project Assistance Program. The funding deadline is June 30, 2024. The proposed amendment to the agreement would extend the funding deadline to June 30, 2025.

The council will also consider an amendment to the town’s Active Transportation Plan (ATP), which focuses on non-motor vehicle modes of transportation, walking, biking and hiking areas. The request before the council is to update the short-range sidewalk infill plan including a portion for the downtown area as well as a small section along Saguaro Boulevard south of Shea Boulevard.

This proposed request has no immediate construction planned but the update would allow staff to prepare applications for grant funding.

Another item on the agenda is council consideration of an amendment to a cooperative purchasing agreement with D.H. Pace Company for door hardware, related parts and services. The agreement is through the 1 Governmental Procurement Alliance (1GPA). This program offers outstanding pricing on products and services, according to Public Works Director Justin Weldy.

This covers facilities maintenance for numerous types of doors including garage doors, swinging double doors and access control doors. The facilities include Town Hall, the Community Center, both fire stations, library/museum and street yard maintenance facility.

As part of the annual door maintenance and as-needed repair agreement, the facilities supervisor provides the locations and time frames for work to be completed. The agreement calls for a not to exceed amount of $150,000, however, there is an unencumbered balance of $49,000 that allows staff to ensure proper maintenance in a prompt manner, Weldy said in his staff report.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Capt. Larry Kratzer will present a law enforcement services update from MCSO. The council will also recognize the school district’s Stellar Students of the Month for May. Mayor Ginny Dickey will offer a proclamation designating May 19-25 as National Travel and Tourism Week in Fountain Hills.

The Town Council meets on Tuesday, May 21, at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public. The meetings are also live streamed on YouTube and carried live on TV over Cox Channel 11. The complete council agenda packet material is available for review on the town website, fountainhillsaz.gov/agendas.
