Apparently the letter writer in last week’s paper thought labeling Dickey, Leger and Elkie as the “Three Amigos” was a bad thing. But it was a great example of understanding the issues and working in a bipartisan way.
Since one is a Democrat, one is Independent and one is a Republican, it shows that local politics really shouldn’t deal with party lines. And what about the other two council members who also voted to extend the medical marijuana dispensary hours -- Dennis Brown & Cassie Hansen? Why did the letter writer not include them as “amigos?”
These five council members understand that medical marijuana is a valid medical treatment and the dispensary is a valid business. For those who question it, I suggest you watch the CNN special by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, “Weed.” He concluded the federal government is wrong about marijuana and that it has extensive medical benefits.

For the Kavanaghs, this just continues their agenda of wanting to control decisions for everyone. John Kavanagh has tried to undo the legalization of medical marijuana -- he has shown on numerous occasions that he has no respect for what voters want (one could go as far back as the dissolution of the duly-elected Fire District when he was on the council).
Making marijuana the “bogeyman” is another way for John Kavanagh to feed non-violent offenders into the private prison system that he seems to adore (he cuts education funds and guarantees to pay for 100 percent occupancy of private prisons, whether the beds are full or not).
Mayor Kavanagh seems to be abetting her husband’s campaign and embarrasses Fountain Hills again by stating that she doesn’t trust a business owner to be safe, with no problems on his record at all. She was the one with totally wrong information regarding medical marijuana, not the business owner!
