Growth is coming slowly but surely to the young but committed Fountain Hills High School wrestling team.
The grappling Falcons participated in two competitions this past week. At their one home dual meet of the season on Dec. 5, FHHS went 1-3, beating Hayden High School.
Over the weekend the team went to Coronado High School for the Chandler Prep Invitational. Senior Falcon Leyton Kauffman, wrestling at the 182 weight class, took first place in the tournament and also earned the Outstanding Wrestler award.

Growth is coming slowly but surely to the young but committed Fountain Hills High School wrestling team.

Over the weekend the team went to Coronado High School for the Chandler Prep Invitational. Senior Falcon Leyton Kauffman, wrestling at the 182 weight class, took first place in the tournament and also earned the Outstanding Wrestler award.
The next meet for the Falcons is today, Dec. 12. The meet will be away at Hayden High School.
Head coach Luke Salzman said the wrestlers are showing improvement with every match.
“We are very young but are improving every time we wrestle,” Salzman said. “The kids know success won’t happen overnight and continue to work hard and learn the sport.”
Salzman was also proud to recognize Kauffman for his commitment to the program for the past four years.
“Leyton Kauffman, our lone senior,” Salzman said, “was recognized with his family for being dedicated to the Falcon team for the past four years.”
