Wood fires banned for New Years

Maricopa County is banning wood burning fires for the New Years holiday with ADEQ issuing an air quality watch for Wednesday and a high pollution advisory for Thursday, New Years Day.

ADEQ analysts say the cold air behind the weather front that brought rain to the Valley will trap particulate pollution near the surface.

Holiday wood fires and fireworks can add to the pollution creating problems with individuals with respiratory concerns. Those with respiratory health issues are advised to avoid exertion and stay indoors.
