The last Town Council meeting was a shocker to many of the residents of Fountain Hills. It was the epitome of partisanship at its worst.
The only person on the primary election ballot to garner enough votes to win a position on the council without having to run in the General Election was Gayle Earle. Gayle was and is the choice of the voters in Fountain Hills. As such, she was the obvious choice to fill the position vacated by Sharron Grzybowski.
In fact, that is how Mayor Dickey first came on the council. Dickey had garnered the most votes in the primary and was appointed by a conservative mayor and council to fill the seat of a councilperson who had tragically died. I’m sure the conservative council disagreed with Dickey’s liberal positions, but they respected the will of the voters.
Mayor Dickey, Councilwoman McMahon and Councilwoman Kalivianakis showed they had no respect for the voters. Shocking as it is, these three have showed little respect for the voters in the past. Think high-density apartments at Target plaza, roundabouts, sober houses and 5G.
They have announced that politics and ego are more important to them than the will of the voters.
It is time for the voters to be heard in a way they cannot be ignored in the upcoming General Election and in future elections as well.
I’m sure in future letters to the editor you will hear excuses for ignoring the voters, but regardless of their justifications, facts are facts.
