Will to change

Folks, I’m downright exhausted. I’m trying to keep up with all the funky political terms being thrown at us. You know, those pretentious informal terms designed to deceive thru sleight of hand. Today’s funky entry is “political correctness.” The expression began in the early to mid-20th century as a tool in Communist and Socialist debates. Today, these kinds of phrases have multiplied and created political, social and economic rhetoric (hot air) without revealing a candidate’s real intentions.

This is accomplished by changing the language. Like: abortion is choice, illegal aliens are migrants, men and women are now persons. It’s gotten to where we are no longer Americans, we’re African Americans, Irish Americans, etc. Doesn’t that seem unpatriotic somehow?

In many instances we’re being asked to believe something we know to be politically funky. Aren’t we being cheated and not shown any respect? These terms, phrases and words encompass what can best be described as mysterious meanings. Are the American people being bamboozled? Or maybe vilified?

Even Democrat Gore Vidal said: “As societies grow decadent, the language grows decadent, too. Words are used to disguise, not to illuminate, action. You liberate a city by destroying it. Words are to confuse so that at election time people will solemnly vote against their own interests.”

Think that’s happening?

I certainly hope that we who vote haven’t become so uninformed and complacent with all those funky political terms that we have lost the courage or desire to change our circumstances? Which of you see your interests being represented, by the incumbents, in the public square where there’s open debate leading to honest elections?

Sometimes, doesn’t a person just have to summon their innermost strength, elevate their will, and change what isn’t working, even if it’s a little scary?
