Why is Fountain Hills Councilman Skillicorn running for another office?

Posted

Why is Councilman Allen Skillicorn seemingly already running for a different office?

The message was clear as early as last summer when he posted campaign signs in Scottsdale with his name. They eventually had a Trump sticker on them and remained up through the November General Election. I bet there were some people in Scottsdale looking for his name on their ballot for some office (and for Joe Arpaio, for that matter.).

It would appear Skillicorn wants out of his Fountain Hills Town Council responsibilities. Is it because he was sanctioned for his actions against a town employee? Who knows? Yes, he can run for any office in 2026, be it council, mayor, legislator, constable, etc. But as a paid elected official in Arizona, he can only run for/hold one paid elected office.

He’s already filed a “Statement of Interest” in January to run for constable in 2026. But why constable? That’s easy: He has also applied to fill the currently vacant position of constable with the County Board of Supervisors … right now! The appointment will probably be decided soon, and if he is appointed – you guessed it – he would have to resign from council immediately.

So, why? For a guy of obvious ambition, it looks to me like Fountain Hills must not be good enough for him.
