What a deal-2!

As time goes on, more details are emerging about the so-called “deal” with Iran. Secretary of State John Kerry and President Obama continue to sell it to Congress and us as a great deal. Unfortunately, the new details confirm the conclusion that it’s a great deal -- for Iran, but not for the U.S., or Israel, or stability in the Middle East. Let’s explore some specifics.

The old text of UN Security Council Resolution 1929 (2010), reads (emphasis added): “…Iran shall not undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using ballistic missile technology, and that States shall take all necessary measures to prevent the transfer of technology or technical assistance to Iran related to such activities…”

The current language of the Iran deal, just approved by the UN as Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015), reads (emphasis added): “...Iran is called upon not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology, until the date eight years after the JCPOA Adoption Day or until the date on which the IAEA submits a report confirming the Broader Conclusion, whichever is earlier.”

We’ve gone from forbidding Iran from pursuing ballistic missiles to asking them to not do it for eight years. How’s that for progress and tough negotiating?

The other detail, just discovered by Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS) and Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) while meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) -- the nuclear “inspectors” -- is that there are “side agreements” between Iran and IAEA, the specifics of which are known only to Iran and IAEA. Secretary Kerry acknowledged that neither he, nor the President, have seen or read these agreements.

Yes, indeed, what a deal -- for Iran!
