A monsoon storm Saturday night had firefighters in Fountain Hills responding to several calls related to lightning and wind.
Firefighters responded to a report of a palm tree fire on Palomino Boulevard and found that four trees were set on fire by lightning. The trees were not close to a residence and posed no threat to any structures, according to Fire Capt. Todd Brunin.
Also, the homeowner had the fire under control with a garden hose by the time firefighters arrived.
Another call took firefighters to Tumbleweed Drive for a lighting strike.
Brunin said there was no fire involved but the strike had knocked the top of the tree off. He also said the residents asked for firefighters to inspect their home. They found that the strike had caused damage to the home’s electrical and plumbing systems.
A third call for firefighters was a reported tree fire near Avenue of the Fountains and La Montana Drive. They found a large tree limb in the street, however, Brunin said it is unclear whether that damage was done by lightning or wind.
A quarter to a half inch of rain was recorded in parts of Fountain Hills from the storm that struck around 11 p.m.
