We don’t owe Charlie Kirk a statue in Fountain Hills

OPINION – Mr. Skillicorn first wanted to name our Community Center after a right-wing political activist, Charlie Kirk. “Community” means “mutual participation,” as in the “entire town,” not just conservatives or  liberals.

Now he wants to erect a statue to honor the same right-wing activist. He said that “we owe it to Charlie.” I don't owe him anything. He's never lived in Fountain Hills, he didn't own a business in Fountain Hills, he wasn't a pastor in Fountain Hills. So, he visited Fountain Hills several times and he had some Republican friends that lived here, does that justify a statue? Skillicorn’s motives have been rather clear since you moved here.

Skillicorn mentions numerous Christian attributes of Charlie, but he never mentions any of the bad attributes that were outlined at the Oct. 7 Town Council meeting concerning his comments on women, the gay community, people of color, transgenders. I also looked up previous comments from Kirk and, if any of the results that I read are trustworthy, then I definitely don’t want a Charlie Kirk statue in Fountain Hills.
