Volunteer Expo

Many different organizations rely on volunteers to run smoothly. In Fountain Hills, we have quite a few organizations for you to volunteer your time – pet rescues, home-delivery meals, the museum and maintaining our trail heads, to name a few. Last Wednesday we had an opportunity to see a slew of our local organizations and clubs in one place at the town’s Volunteer Expo.

Giving back does more than give you a warm, fuzzy feeling. It improves your mental and physical health, you meet new people, use your skills in new ways and it enriches the community. For me, I find that volunteering my time motivates me to get out of the house more, meet new people and connect with organizations that do great work.

If you were unable to attend our Expo or weren’t able to find the perfect fit that day, contact our Town Volunteer Coordinator and she’ll help you find something that fits your abilities and personality (Heather Ware: hware@fh.az.gov).

I continue to be inspired with the words of John McCain from Sept. 4, 2008:

“If you find faults with our country, make it a better one. If you’re disappointed with the mistakes of government, join its ranks and work to correct them. Enlist in our armed forces. Become a teacher. Enter the ministry. Run for public office. Feed a hungry child. Teach an illiterate adult to read. Comfort the afflicted. Defend the rights of the oppressed. Our country will be the better, and you will be the happier. Because nothing brings greater happiness in life than to serve a cause greater than yourself.”
