Villawatkins: How many ethics investigations before actual consequences?
Is there an infinite number of ethics investigations? According to the Fountain Hills Times Independent, there were seven ethics investigations filed against Allen Skillicorn.
He already displayed road rage against a town employee for simply enforcing our signage laws. He chased that town employee down our streets, causing that alarmed employee to contact MCSO. Seriously? A car chase down our streets over an inanimate object, a sign? That action is already endangering someone’s safety and others. It should have qualified for an immediate sanction. Reckless endangerment comes to mind. Yet, he quotes Bible verses during Town Council meetings?
My opinion: Guard band the number of ethics investigations and sanction him until all ethics investigations are cleared. Make it a finite number of investigations with actionable consequences.

Protecting public safety should be paramount. One ethics investigation for that should be immediately sanctionable.
Is it strike three, “you are sanctioned?” If he worked for any employer, there are clear consequences. Sometimes, it only takes one employee to attack or threaten a customer or a colleague, verbal or written. Sometimes the employee will have three chances. Job termination is enforced after the third.
Is it five ethics investigations and “you are out?”
What are the consequences of multiple investigations? Is it not allowing him to vote on any Town Council decision until cleared of all investigations? Even the GOP sanctioned Rep. George Santos and eventually un-seated him. Seven ethics investigations should be more than enough.
Let this be a lesson to anyone else in public service so that our public servants serve within our Code of Ethics.
