Upcoming original play from Fountain Hills Theater explores the mixed-race experience

Fountain Hills Theater is getting ready to present a brand-new, original play this fall.

“Coffee Mixed with Cream,” a new show written by local playwright Elias Matthews and directed by Gil Berry, can be seen at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays during its run from Aug. 21-30 at the Fountain Hills Theater’s Ross Collins Playhouse at 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd., according to a press release.

The show is about Daniel, a mixed-race playwright who deals with the pressure of opening a new play, which is about the black experience. However, the play’s success draws the ire of his estranged black father, who feels that Daniel can’t tell a story about the black experience since he was raised by his white mother.
