Several decades ago songwriter/producer Buck Ram wrote a song which became a classic. It was released in the fall of 1955 when Donald Trump was nine years old. Ram could not have known how appropriate the title, and some of his lyrics, would become all these years later.
That song is, of course, “The Great Pretender.” For those of you over a certain age, the Platters are singing in your head right now, aren’t they?
“Oh yes, I’m the great pretender,

Pretending that I’m doing well.
Oh yes, I’m the great pretender,
Adrift in a world of my own.
I seem to be what I’m not, you see,
I’m wearing my [hair] like a crown.”
It’s too bad Buck Ram isn’t still around so he could flesh out the message with contemporary lyrics. The new version could not have matched the old in heartfelt meaning. However, it might resonate for a while.
Granted, depending on one’s political orientation, this “vibration” could be either positive or negative.
