The Falcon track and field team will be sending just shy of 20 athletes to this year’s state event, one of the largest fields of competitors to represent Fountain Hills High School in quite a few years.

The state meet will be held at Mesa Community College Friday and Saturday, May 10-11. Events kick off each day at 1:15 p.m.

Last Chance

The team recently took part in the Last Chance competition hosted out of Alhambra High School, giving athletes in divisions 1A to 4A a final opportunity to meet their qualifying marks to compete at state.

“We did pretty well. All the kids had a good day,” said head coach Chris Davis.

“Sierra [Jarriel] broke the school record in the two mile and Trista Smith qualified for state with her jump in the pole vault.”

No awards were given out for top-placing teams at this event, as the primary focus was to allow athletes a “Last Chance” to meet state qualifying marks and times.

“The kids are very excited,” Davis said.

“We have so many going this year. We should have a good showing.”
