Track: Girls finish second at state

The final finish line of the 2015 season has been crossed, with the girls track team managing a second place overall finish at the state competition, led by Leah Crillo’s first place finish in the triple jump.

The Falcons, both boys and girls, had quite a few athletes qualify for state this year, with 28 local athletes going on to compete at Mesa Community College on May 8-9.

According to head coach Todd Brecto, this was a feat worth being proud of.

“It’s a lot harder to qualify for state the past four years, as the only way you are getting there is based on time or distance qualifications,” Brecto added.

“In the past, you could get into the state meet just by being in the top four places in your regional competition.”

Those qualifying marks proved to be a good challenge for the Falcons, with nearly 30 local runners, jumpers and throwers continuing on to the final meet of the season.
