I want to vote for the property tax in Fountain Hills next month. I really do! And I know a lot of people who feel the same. But I, along with many people I have spoken with, have misgivings about how the money generated by the tax will be spent.
Distrust of the town council’s ability to spend money wisely is due to decisions resulting in money being spent foolishly. For instance, money was appropriated for a study to construct a lagoon, something which is the least of our town’s needs. Another fiasco concerning money was the question of whether or not the developer fees of the new apartment complex being built were needed to be paid at all.

When we have important issues such as repairing streets and critical upcoming fountain maintenance, it is inconceivable that some of our elected leaders waste time and money with ridiculous ideas and proposals that lead to this justifiable lack of trust. If we are to continue to have a great town, we need to trust our leaders.
Whoever runs for mayor needs to be someone we trust wholeheartedly and we need to be able to choose future town council members rather than have them chosen for us, so that we can feel confident about our town’s future.
I trust Ginny Dickey and therefore I plan to vote for the property tax and to vote for Ginny Dickey for mayor of Fountain Hills. Because of his past positions and decisions, I cannot vote for Cecil Yates.
