Mr. Thompson conveniently left out information about the town’s finances.
We have millions in the capital improvement reserve funds. The town has not included any significant revenues from any major development within the next five years.
Is this the optimistic revenues Thompson refers to? How about the new nursery home on Paul Norton Parkway, and the $100 million project coming up on the Avenue of the Fountains? Did Thompson not read about the developer plans for the Target Center?

We are now getting many new customers from the huge Tonto Verde development on Dynamite. Does he want to hire back the 63 employees let go since 2002? What drastically changed since they are gone?
Thompson never mentions all the work we have done and are doing on our infrastructure. Will he ever admit a town property tax cannot only be spent on capital improvements and repairs to infrastructure? The tax payers have no control where that money will go. The budget is only estimated. It is not set in concrete.
I could not find in the budget the half-million environmental fee. Does this not help?
I still cannot believe Thompson has no compassion for the people in our town that are struggling financially.
Arizona Republic, 1/26/16: “Nearly half of Arizona households face chronic financial struggles…” The CFED ranks Arizona 42nd in financial security. Not everyone has no cost or low cost Veterans insurance.
I am glad Thompson has a large enough fixed income to waste on new and higher taxes. Many people just have Social Security and Medicare. A town property tax also raises the tax on all our businesses. They in turn will raise their price on everything we buy, including rental, storage units and apartments.
Thompson’s answer, Marie Antoinette’s statement, “let them eat cake.”
